Parainfluenza 3-Induced Cough Hypersensitivity in the Guinea Pig Airways
The effect of respiratory tract viral infection on evoked cough in guinea pigs was evaluated. Guinea pigs were inoculated intranasally with either parainfluenza type 3 (PIV3) and cough was quantified in conscious animals. The guinea pigs infected with PIV3 (day 4) coughed nearly three times more than those treated with the viral growth medium in response to capsaicin, citric acid, and bradykini...
متن کاملKawasaki disease associated with parainfluenza type 3 virus infection.
Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute, febrile and multisystem vasculitis of early childhood with a striking predilection for the coronary arteries. In developed countries, the incidence of KD has replaced acute rheumatic fever as the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. The etiologic agent of KD remains unknown, although clinical and epidemiologic features strongly indicate an infe...
متن کاملIsolation of Bovine Parainfluenza-3 Virus in Chick Embryos.
Myxovirus parainfluenza-3 (SF-4 bovine strain) was first isolated in tissue cultures of embryonic bovine kidney (EBK) cells (Reisinger, Heddleston, and Manthei, J. Am. Vet. Med. Assoc. 135:147, 1959). This agent is antigenically and biologically related to the human HA-1 strain isolated previously by Chanock et al. in monkey kidney cells (Abinanti and Huebner, Virology 8:391, 1959; Abinanti et ...
متن کاملHuman Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 in Wild Nonhuman Primates, Zambia
Human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV3) genome was detected in 4 baboons in Zambia. Antibody for HPIV3 was detected in 13 baboons and 6 vervet monkeys in 2 distinct areas in Zambia. Our findings suggest that wild nonhuman primates are susceptible to HPIV3 infection.
متن کاملParainfluenza type 3 viral outbreak in a neonatal nursery.
An outbreak of parainfluenza virus type 3 infection that occurred in a special neonatal care unit is described. Birth weights of affected infants ranged from 1860 to 2080 g and gestational ages were between 28 and 32 weeks. Three infants presented with recurrent episodes of apnoea associated with oxygen desaturations on postnatal ages of 16 days, 26 days and 66 days respectively; upper respirat...
